Raise the tide of enterprise mobility

I just returned from a quick trip to San Francisco where I attended the GigaOM Mobilize event. There were a number of sessions that, although not directly related to enterprise mobility, made me think about their repercussions on our industry.  Let me share with you some highlights:
·     During one session on mobile infrastructure, one panelist made the comment that “Rising tide lifts all boats when you partner.” Later in that session, another panelist said “Clouds are being fragmented – tools and devices and OSs too…we need to reign it all back in.”

·     In another session, a panelist asked thequestion “How do companies build interconnects to mobilize people and the business?”

·     During a session on mobile application development, someone said “IT should embrace consumerization – there is no other option.”

·     During a session on whether companies should allow employees to bring their own smartphones and tablets to work, one panelist said “Not a single CIO wants to be in the inventory business.”

These and other sessions struck me as key issues that we are facing today in enterprise mobility.  There was, however, one panel that took place on the second day of the event that I wanted to highlight.
Philippe Winthrop, Managing Director of The EnterpriseMobility Foundation moderated a panel with four North American mobile device management companies.  During the panel, he asked one very important question: “When are we collectively as an industry going to stop talking about mobile device management and instead start talking about enterprise mobility management?” I couldn’t agree more with that question.
At VeliQ, we don’t believe that our industry can only focus on mobile device management.  Enterprise mobility has evolved considerably in the last few years to include mobile applications, mobile security and more. It’s very complex and end-users need to partner with multiple best-of-breed vendors to address the complexity of enterprise mobility.  We believe that we can raise the tide of enterprise mobility by bringing together the best partners in the industry for systems integration, mobile network operators, OEMs, mobile technology vendors and more.
That’s why MobiDM is much more than a mobile device management solution.  It’s a means for organizations to tap into an ecosystem of best-of-breed technologies and services to manage enterprise mobility via the Cloud. MobiDM is the interconnect that helps companies mobilize their employees and their business. We help IT organizations embrace the consumerization of technology by providing them the tools they need to no longer be afraid of this growing trend and instead focus on what mobility can bring to your business. So, like Philippe said, let’s focus together on managing enterprise mobility as opposed to just focusing on managing devices.
