Moving To The Fast Lane of The Information Superhighway

Highway

Imagine you’re driving on the Autobahn. You’re confidently driving your high performance car at 200 kilometers per hour. You feel safe and secure, confident that you know how your car is performing and you can predict how you are going to need to change gears or turn the steering wheel as the road shifts. Then, all of a sudden, the weather starts to change…radically. The sky is suddenly filled with dark clouds and heavy rains start pouring down. You decide to slow down to 150 kilometers per hour because there’s a lot of uncertainty and you’re not sure how the road and weather might change at any moment. You notice that, strangely enough, the dark clouds and rain are not in the left lane – in the Fast Lane. All of a sudden, you see another car emerge in your rear-view mirror…and moments later, it has passed you in the Fast Lane at over 250 kilometers per hour. Can you catch up to the other car?

A very similar scenario has emerged for IT managers. Mobility in the workplace is moving as fast as a Formula 1 racecar or a Bugatti Veyron with its 1000 horsepower engine. Mobile devices are entering the workplace faster than most IT managers can identify them. What’s more, the individuals using these mobile devices are not just accessing corporate email and calendars, they are also looking to access data from CRM, ERP and other back-end systems. The explosive increase in mobile device and application adoption is directly related to the tangible benefits they can bring in terms of increasing the speed, efficiency and effectiveness of the workforce, thereby accelerating an organization’s business velocity – moving it into The Fast Lane.

However, in order for employees to be able to go about their days most effectively in The Fast Lane, organizations still need to have the tools in place to manage this influx of mobile devices and applications. Organizations need to be able to ensure that their employees are not only gaining increased flexibility to drive higher productivity, but they also need to ensure that the data they are accessing is protected and secured. The required tools go well beyond needing a mobile device management solution, and instead include the need for tools for enterprise mobility management, mobile application development, systems integration, expense management and more. Think of it as the tools a pit crew would have for Formula 1 race car.

It’s important to note that most cars – especially super cars – are not built entirely in-house. Car manufacturers create an ecosystem to leverage the best components possible from trusted partners for engines, transmissions, tires and more…and then add their vision and expertise to unite these myriad components into one high performance machine. This is precisely VeliQ’s vision with MobiDM.
